Introuduction to Hayley



Hayley is my main protagonist for my story, she is a 24 year old Trans-Woman who ran away from her high-class parents in Manhattan when she was 14. 10 years later she is forced to return to New York when she finds out that both her parents have been killed in a car crash and she's been named legal guardian of her 4 year old sister







Im going to go through some of the more influences.

Mary Ann Singleton-Tales of the City

Both Tales of the City and it's main protagonist, Mary Ann Singleton are key influences to my Story. TotC's latest story features Mary Ann Singleton returning to San Francisco many years after she left to pursue a new career. When she returns she meets the friends who missed her, the family she abandoned and the city that both loved and hurt her. The feelings she goes through when she returns is what I want to capture in my story.



Rose Dawson-Titanic

Rose from Titanic is another character who is thrust upon a difficult time on an iconic location. She boards the Titanic being forced to marry a man she doesn't love for the sake of class status. Throughout the first act of the film she is very depressed, and even begins to attempt suicide at one point. The depression is what I want to convey in Haley.

Changes to my project due to The Coronavirus Outbreak

Unfortunately my project has stalled for a few weeks while I figure out how to proceed with my project. My original project was going to compose of 5 finished scenes that would've come together to compose a trailer. However with what I've got to work with at home, this simply isn't possible. At uni I'm using a full cintiq setup, however at home I'm using a Microsoft Surface Go which simply isn't strong enough to run animation software such as Toonboom or Maya. It's battery is only good for about 2 hours and overheats if the charger is left in for too long or I'm running extraneous software such as Premiere or After Effects. And I don't have a proper stand for it so have to lean over it, so I have to take regular breaks otherwise I'll end this project with a worse hunchback than Quasimodo (Hunchback of Notre Dame). Picking a Scene-Scene 3

Scene 3 Scene 3 takes place on the rooftop of Heartwell tower. As Hayley looks out at the New York Skyline, she remembers herself sitting on the rooftop as a kid, before making a call to her therapist. As she records a voice message we see the mindset that Hayley has at the beginning of the story. She starts to slowly panic as she realises where she is and what she has to do, eventually at the end of a monologue, she manages to briefly calm herself before the voice message abruptly reaches it's limit. Leaving her to watch over the skyline. Analysis I really like the idea of this scene and was one of the first scenes I imagined when thinking of the story. The idea of sitting on a rooftop is inspired by more eastern anime imagery for example in Kingdom Hearts. Verdict I definitely think this scene suits a motion comic well, there is a lot I can do with the art style and with more simple After Effects movement that I can run on my tablet without overrunning it.
