Scene 3-Rough Storyboard

Image
This is the rough storyboard for Scene 3. I wanted to quickly map out each shot of the comic so I could figure out the pace of the scene.

Picking a Scene-Scene 3

Scene 3 Scene 3 takes place on the rooftop of Heartwell tower. As Hayley looks out at the New York Skyline, she remembers herself sitting on the rooftop as a kid, before making a call to her therapist. As she records a voice message we see the mindset that Hayley has at the beginning of the story. She starts to slowly panic as she realises where she is and what she has to do, eventually at the end of a monologue, she manages to briefly calm herself before the voice message abruptly reaches it's limit. Leaving her to watch over the skyline. Analysis I really like the idea of this scene and was one of the first scenes I imagined when thinking of the story. The idea of sitting on a rooftop is inspired by more eastern anime imagery for example in Kingdom Hearts. Verdict I definitely think this scene suits a motion comic well, there is a lot I can do with the art style and with more simple After Effects movement that I can run on my tablet without overrunning it.

Picking a Scene-Scene 1

So after deciding to turn one scene that I've planned into a motion comic, I need to analyse each scene to decide which one would fit best moving forward. Scene 1 Scene 1 was meant to open the story, it is a more experimental scene as it shows leaves blowing off a tree in central park and flying across Manhattan, before coming across a New York bus. The camera then switches focus to the bus showing Hayley inside. The camera follows the bus to a tall tower with hearts on its sides and as Hayley gets off the bus, the leaves from the beginning of the scene blow past her, ending the scene. Analysis I wanted the opening to perfectly eclipse what the main themes of the story were going to be. The leaves falling off the tree and the orange sky representing the strong sense of season in the story. The motive of the leaves flying across Manhattan was actually inspired by the opening of Forrest Gump which shows a feather flying across a block before landing at the titular chara...

Changes to my project due to The Coronavirus Outbreak

Unfortunately my project has stalled for a few weeks while I figure out how to proceed with my project. My original project was going to compose of 5 finished scenes that would've come together to compose a trailer. However with what I've got to work with at home, this simply isn't possible. At uni I'm using a full cintiq setup, however at home I'm using a Microsoft Surface Go which simply isn't strong enough to run animation software such as Toonboom or Maya. It's battery is only good for about 2 hours and overheats if the charger is left in for too long or I'm running extraneous software such as Premiere or After Effects. And I don't have a proper stand for it so have to lean over it, so I have to take regular breaks otherwise I'll end this project with a worse hunchback than Quasimodo (Hunchback of Notre Dame). Despite this I'm determined to come out of this deadline with some sort of finished project, which is why after talking to my ...
